Moses Basket and Stand, 2001
This Moses basket and wooden stand in the museum collection was purchased for the arrival of baby Eleanor Copp in Stone. The basket is made from palm leaves and has a mattress, hood and quilt in red, blue and white cotton. Throughout history cradles, cots and woven baskets have been acquired by families expecting a new baby. Sometimes cradles have been passed down through many generations, and over time these very personal mementoes become family heirlooms.
