Homemade Wooden Toys

Shelia Bloor

Sheila Bloor grew up in Cross Heath, Newcastle-under-Lyme during the Second World War. It was very difficult to get new toys during this time as there was a shortage of materials. Sheila’s father, Ernest, was a cabinet maker. He made her a whole range of toys out of wood, probably off-cuts and spare pieces from his workshop. He painted them in bright colours. They include a wheeled wooden horse, a pull-along train and a doll’s house complete with furniture.
