A Bottle of Rum

This small glass bottle has a handwritten label which reads “Rum given to Earl St. Vincent by┬áthe Portugese Government after the Battle of Cape St. Vincent 14 February 1797”

It is a nice example of a memento which was originally given as a gift and then passed on through a family. It was donated to the County Museum in 1966. Over the last 220 years the rum inside has gradually evaporated.
